Citizenship Application Process & Costs

Step 1

In order to make an application for citizenship, the first step is to choose the investment route in order to qualify for citizenship. Should the applicant choose the real estate option, he will be required to have identified his chosen property and have begun the purchasing process, albeit final payment will be differed until after the Citizenship by Investment Unit has approved the application.

If an applicant wishes to apply via the business investment route, he will be required to provide details of the proposed business investment at the time of the application.

Step 2

Submission of all application forms together with supporting documentation, properly translated & certified where appropriate. With the application forms, applicants are required to make the following non-refundable payments:

  • 10% of the government fees;
  • 100% of due diligence fees; and
  • 50% of the application processing fees payable to FRI Antigua & Barbuda.

An initial response from the Citizenship by Investment Unit takes between 60-90 days.

Step 3

The regulations specify that within 90 days, the Citizenship by Investment Unit will notify the licensed agents regarding the outcome of the application.

Following approval, applicants must within 30 days make the following payments:

  • 90% of the government fees; and
  • 50% of the application processing fees payable to FRI Antigua & Barbuda.

In addition, within 30 days the applicant shall also:

  • Deposit the required funds into the National Development Fund escrow account; or
  • Complete and execute the sale agreement for the purchase of real estate and pay the purchase price; or
  • Complete and execute the necessary documentation for the payment of all sums due for the implementation of the proposed investment in business.

Step 4

Following settlement of all outstanding payments and fees, an application is made for the issuance of passports. This process can take up to 30 days. At the time of applying, the applicant must make the following payment:

  • 100% of passport application fees

Step 5

Applicants will be issued a Certificate of Registration as nationals of Antigua & Barbuda. 

Applicants can collect their passports either in Antigua & Barbuda or from the nearest Antigua & Barbuda embassy.  At the time of collection, an oath of allegiance is required.

Total costs include government fees, due diligence fees and passport application fees. Furthermore, they include the costs for application vetting, processing, control and completion. Hovever, they do not include the legal fees associated with the purchase of real estate or bussiness investment.
